Winter Safety Inspections | Chicagoland Jiffy Lube®

While we all may still be enjoying mild fall temperatures and the leaves changing colors on the trees, we all know that winter is just around the corner. With it will certainly come adverse weather conditions, including freezing rain, sleet, and snow. All of these weather events can have an adverse affect on your vehicle, as well as make driving conditions more challenging to maneuver through. That’s why Chicagoland Jiffy Lube® recommends having a Winter Safety Inspection completed on your vehicle. Here’s exactly what your highly-trained technician will check during the inspection:

  • Windshield Wipers

If your wipers are worn, they won’t be able to clear rain and snow from your windshield. This can pose a safety hazard, as you may not be able to see the road clearly while driving. We’ll check your wipers for wear, and can install new ones on the spot.

  • Exterior & Interior Lights

Having to change the small light bulbs both inside and outside of your vehicle can be a tedious task, especially if you aren’t sure what types are required. What’s more, you may not even be aware when exterior lights go out, since you often can’t see anything beyond your headlights when driving at night. We’ll inspect all of your lights, and can replace any that have burned out.

  • Cabin & Engine Filters

Your cabin and engine filters help to ensure that the air in your cabin and in your engine are clean from dust or other contaminants. A clean engine filter is especially important, as it helps keep your engine running smoothly and prevent a loss of fuel efficiency. We’ll check both, and let you know if they need to be replaced.

  • Tire Tread

Having adequate tire tread means that your tires will be able to grip the road even in wet or icy weather conditions. Your Chicagoland Jiffy Lube ® technician will measure your tire tread depth; if the depth is too low, you should replace your tires as soon as possible.

  • Serpentine Belts

The belts on your engine help the various parts work together to power your vehicle down the road. As they wear, they become cracked and brittle, and can eventually break. If this happens while you’re driving, it can cause major damage to your engine. We’ll check your belts for wear, and recommend replacement when necessary.

  • Vital Fluid Levels

There are many different fluids within your engine to help each part function properly. These fluids include oil, transmission, brake, and power steering, as well as antifreeze/coolant. If any of these become low, your parts can wear out more quickly than normal, or even stop working completely. Your technicians will check each fluid level, and can top them off on the spot.

  • Battery Condition

While batteries typically last for years, you don’t always get much warning when they’re about to die. Your Jiffy Lube ® technician will check for corrosion and damage, as well as test the voltage, to let you know if the battery is good to go for harsh winter temperatures, or if it is in need of replacement.

  • Brake Wear (At Select Locations)

Properly functioning brakes are important year-round, but they’re especially important during the winter, when ice and snow can make roads slick. We’ll measure your brake pads to see if they’re still within a normal functioning range, and can give you an idea of when they should be replaced.

  • Alignment (At Select Locations)

Having your tires properly aligned means that your vehicle will drive straight down the road – instead of pulling to one side or the other. During winter, when ice can be present on the road at any time, this can be especially helpful to avoid slipping out of your lane. Your technician will check to see if your tires are properly aligned, and can get them straight again if they need it.
