It’s National Car Care Month! | Chicagoland Jiffy Lube®

The Car Care Council has designated April as National Car Care Month. Why you may ask? Its aim is to help raise awareness of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance. The CCC chose April because, after driving around in cold and wet winter conditions for the last few months, your vehicle may be in need of some regular maintenance or repairs to keep it running strong. In addition, minor issues like wearing tires and worn-out windshield wipers are common after winter – and may cause issues during any summer trips you may be planning.

Your neighborhood Jiffy Lube® is here to help you learn more about National Car Care Month with a list of tips on vehicle care & maintenance that we think you should know for spring driving.

Tip #1: Start the season with a Free Spring Safety Inspection.

Did you know that you can stop by at your neighborhood Jiffy Lube® for a Free Spring Safety Inspection anytime, no appointment necessary. We’ll give your vehicle a thorough checkup, alerting you to any maintenance tasks that may need to be done.

Tip #2: Help reduce the risk of tire problems by keeping them at the right pressure.

The fluctuations in temperatures that spring can bring can mean that your tires are not at the correct pressure. This can put you at a higher risk of experiencing a flat tire, and make your tires wear unevenly. Stop by your neighborhood Jiffy Lube® anytime to have your pressure checked free of charge, and our highly trained technicians can make sure they’re at the proper level.

Tip #3: When heavy spring rains hit, be sure to avoid any flooded roads.

It can be difficult to tell just how deep water is until you’re in it – which can not only make your car stall, but could also cause water damage to your interior, and lead to serious issues with electronics. Remember that it is always better to turn around and find a safer route than risk crossing a flooded road.

Tip #4: Don’t ignore your check engine light.

It may be tempting to simply ignore your check engine light. What could a few more days hurt? The answer is plenty. While it could just be a minor problem that is fine to delay repairing for a short while, it could also be something very serious. If your check engine light ever comes on, drive to your nearest participating Jiffy Lube® location as soon as you can. There, they can determine exactly what “code” your engine is sending, which tells our highly trained technicians exactly what the problem is. From there, they can advise you on the severity of the issue, if it is safe to continue driving, and give you an estimate for the necessary repairs.

Tip #5: Be sure to watch for pedestrians.

With the beautiful weather we can expect in the coming weeks and months, there are sure to be plenty of people out and about enjoying the sunshine. Be sure to double-check for pedestrians at all intersections, and anytime that you’re about to make a turn.
