Chicagoland Jiffy Lube® is proud to announce our newest partnership to support City Kids Camp. This wonderful organization is dedicated to giving inner-city children a chance to find adventure, fun, and hope at their beautiful 167-acre camp. By doing so, City Kids Camp provides an escape for inner-city Chicago youth in an environment free from violence, drugs, and gangs, in the natural and peaceful residential summer camp setting. And the best part? Each child who attends one of City Kids Camp’s week-long camping experiences gets to do so totally free of charge.
City Kids Camp is in Lewistown, Illinois, about three hours south of Chicago. The camp has rustic cabins, a main lodge, gymnasium, game room, an outdoor pool, sports fields, a three-and-a-half-acre pond and plenty of biking and hiking trails. This means that there are plenty of new and exciting things for the campers to do and learn about. City Kids Camp operates on four principles to give their campers the best possible experience:
Nature
Access to nature helps to relieve campers’ stress from urban living in impoverished communities rife with gangs, violence and drugs.
Activities
Wildlife education, hiking, archery and ropes course are just a few of the activities our campers experience.
Sports
Through participation in sports, our campers learn the value of honesty, teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.
Mentorship
Mentoring shows our campers that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter.
City Kids Camp hopes to host 400 disadvantaged kids over four one-week sessions this Summer. Their dream is to expand the number of camp sessions and bring as many kids to camp as possible in subsequent summers. That is why we have chosen to partner with this organization – so that we can help fulfill their dream of opening up their camp to as many children as possible.
